My Two Phones

Aaah, more and more material comfort !!
Sony-Ericsson W950i and Motorola C115

Everyone around me buys Nokia - I buy one motorola and three Sony-Ericssons (one for me, one for my dad and another for my friend. I only paid for MINE though).

Everyone around me buys Hero Honda - I buy a Bajaj Wind

Everyone around me buys Lee Cooper - I buy Bata

Everyone around me buys Sony Cybershot/Canon Powershot - I buy Panasonic Lumix

Everyone around me arrives at their first interview riding their bikes - I ride my dad's bicycle

Everyone around me wears patterned ties on solid shirts - I wear solids on patterned shirts

Am I a nonconformist
or just a plain misfit?

  • Hey Guns,

Congrats on all the material acquisitions :-)

About phones, I guess Sony is the in thing around me...And I am still without one..I mean without a cell phone..

    Bikes out of question..Still can't ride a cycle :-)

Interesting choice about the camera...Never even heard about Panasonic Lumix..Can you please shed some light?

Went to my first interview walking...

And I am not even commenting on the shirts/ties :-)

    Cheers,
    HP

  • Shradha, Renu, Cuckoo & Shark :Go ahead and abuse me. Sheesh...girls are SO alike ! (Little do they know that in one dirty rotten corner of Guns' mind, he likes being a misfit..*snigger*)

HP : Shabbash. I was amongst the last people in my office to get a mobile phone and the last person in my college class to get a bike. I've resisted the material temptations for as long as I could. Most things I buy are more from necessity than from luxury.

My first mobile was practically forced down my throat by dad coz I was mostly incommunicado when I was in Mumbai for training and one fine weekend, I left for Pune after office and my uncle/aunt and family were worried about where I disappeared. They called office, they called my home in Pune and no one knew where I was. Next day, dad dragged me to the market to buy a mobile. OF course, I bought the C115 which was the cheapest phone on the market !

I planned to use the same phone here (I even did it for 2 months) but I realized that a contract phone is the best option to have here. Now since I pay the same amount per month for the contract, why not get the best available phone? W950i is the most expensive phone here right now and its around £400. I haggled a little with the shop and I got it !!

  • @Guns,

Yep..I agree that a cell phone is more of a necessity than a luxury and especially for ppl who stay away from home..

And I don't think buying luxuries is a waste of money...Its just that we define our priorities..So, one man's luxury is another man's necessity :-)

btw, its been a long time you posted something about your stay there..Which all places have you visited? Any EPL game you managed to see??

    Cheers,

  • Its good to be different and thaz what I am.

By Blogger Priya, at 7:09 pm

  • i thik u r readin too much into it, it's just a matter o choice; in the bigger picture, u r doin, what they are... they are using cellphomes, you are using cellphones, they are using a mode of transportation, you're using a mode of transportation, they are getting victimised by brands, you are getting victimised by brands...(so much for bein an MBA, lol!):P

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:56 am

  • hmmmm my first phone was Motorolla C115 one and half yrs back... when all my friends used to sport some nice phones in College itself... I waited to get my first job and a few months after that... I still have a Motorolla, a MotoSlim :-)

For my first job I went in a TVS Scooty (my bhabhi's 8 yr old), now I ride a Honda Activa (mine, brand new and black)

I used to wear Jeans and FabIndia Kurtas with a jute bag 2 yrs back... now I wear branded trousers and leather bags.

    So tastes change... :-)

About being a nonconformist...Well not everyone can dare to deviate and have the crowds turn around and stare at u... I call it individuality :-)

By Blogger Winged Fantasy, at 6:27 am

  • Kavita : NO NO NO. You miss the point !! I am NOT deviated by brands. I buy things after buring up quite a few of my neurons researching on them. I bought the WIND because it was the same price as the (Hero Honda) Passion but had a 125 cc engine (vs 100), 5 gears (vs 4 gears), CVC (vs normal carb), thick rear tyres, a cooler look and a longer seat/wheelbase.

PEople bought Hero Honda just coz they thought the brand had some magic in it. CRAP, I say.

Bought the C115 because it was the cheapest and had the highest battery life. Bought W950i because its the best music player, has 4gig RAM, better looking than any other phone out there and a touchscreen !

  • HP : No EPL games yet man. BTW, LEEDS United was relegated to the second league a long time ago so theres a less chance of seeing a premiership game here.

The Headingley cricket ground is in Leeds and Manchester is next door to Leeds.

  • Hello GUNS,

"Everyone around me arrives at their first interview riding their bikes - I ride my dad's bicycle".

You are intelligent you are making a huge difference. ANd for one thing if i were the boss..i would have given you the job because you are smart to save the environment and some money for your future . Now that you don;t need money for petrol or diesel i am sure you will settle for a small pay packet too!!

Enjoyed this post, was here through USha.

You are neither nonconformist nor just a plain misfit. SUch don't get the job? you got it! right?

By Blogger passerby55, at 4:00 am

  • I think Moto Phones are terrific..u cud chk out the W220,RAZR,RIZR. Great lookin phones..Ok now it sounds like an ad! i'll stop
and a bicycle!! arent they the best!! wonder y they arent so popular in India :((

By Blogger Di, at 6:01 am

  • Tohou :Whats with the name change, Amy?

Kavi, Diva, Akhil :Glad you agree. Join the gang [;-)]

Someone :LOL, I thought I was already on earth. Do you mean I am an interplanetary creature? Thats an extreme form of a misfit, isn't it?

Renu :I tried using http://translate.google.com for that but couldnt come up with a decent enough translation. YOUR SPANISH IS ALL WRONG. LOL...Don't worry, I'm just kidding. Not only have you been to more places than me, you also know more languages (I know four). Gosh...you give me a complex.

Kavita :Yup, I am. But I chose the brand ONLY after I do enough research to know which is the best in quality and value for money.

Dreamy :Well...what took you so long?

Passerby :Thanks for "passing by". Yes, I got the job.

Di :Well, maybe Indians like to follow the west all the time. Now since the West has so many cars, most Indians dream to own cars. What we need is a reversal of the hierarchy as has happened in cities like Amsterdam. Most people use bicycles there.

hows the 950i... id get it except it doesnt have a camera! :(

By Blogger Niah, at 4:50 pm

  • does it really matter? i mean, we buy what we want to buy, thats it.

but tell me - i am sure somewhere, you just like being a misfit - or atleast claiming to be so. most of us do. we use it as a sort of a facade to conveniently bypass the so called 'rules' :)

By Blogger dharmabum, at 5:50 am

  • Niah :4GB memory and a touchscreen. Just what I wanted. I own a pretty good camera and therefore I think paying extra for a lousy camera on the phone is not very smart. I lug my camera around whenever I see the slightest of opportunities to take photos so I dont really need a camera on the phone.

Dharma :Yes mate. You are right. Maybe I hate (a very small subset of) the so-called rules of society once in a while. Not to say I'm antisocial but yes, I am not BLINDLY social, thats all.
