Intelligence and the IIT syndrome

When will people in India stop the nonsensical IIT worship? My *** is a IITian. Big DEAL! So what? For the intellectually challenged nincompoops, I have a message - academic success is not the only criterion for judging a person's intelligence. Going to a prestigious academic institution means nothing more than the fact that one is good at academics, which admittedly is a very good thing but it does not automatically imply anything more.

One of the most intelligent people we have seen for nigh on 20 years is Sachin Tendulkar. He couldn't even pass his 10th standard (or is it that he never cared to? Good of him either way). Was Albert Einstein more intelligent than David Beckham? Some might say Beckham is merely more skilled but then wasn't Einstein too merely 'skilled' at Science? You need intelligence to have skill and my theory is that all persons in this world possess similar level of intelligence - some use that in sport, some in academics, some in art and some just never recognise it.

Debate!
